So, you are planning to become a serious web designer? Or you think you already are? Check out on these 5 things and see if you confirm to all of these!

1. There is more than one browser

Internet Explorer for windows is by far not the only browser around. You should test your website on both the Macintosh and on the PC. You can use Internet Explorer 6, Mozilla Firefox and Opera on the PC and Safari and Firefox on the Macintosh. Internet Explorer for the mac is no longer supported by Microsoft so don’t bother testing, things will hardly work anyway with today’s CSS coding.

2. CSS is the way to go

There is no doubt about it. If you are serious about developing websites you should use Cascading Style Sheets for both your layout and your design. This way you have total control over how your page behaves in all browsers.

It also adds great flexibility to your website for later on, when you are planning to do a redesign for example.

3. Create all your code yourself

Don’t even try to use the Design view from Dreamweaver or Frontpage.

The code it generates is by far not what you want if you need to have full control of your page. For maximum control you should always work in the code view and create things yourself.

4. Use Mozilla Firefox for JavaScript debugging

The error messages Internet Explorer generates are quite irritating to say the least. It doesn’t even tell you what is actually missing and on what place things go wrong.

If there’s one browsers that can help you with your JavaScript development then Firefox is the one. The JavaScript console is by far the most detailed one and will help you very much when you are testing your scripts.

5. Use the Web development Toolbar for both Internet Explorer and Firefox

These toolbars will help you a lot because there are filled with debugging tools and handy shortlinks to useful tools.

The one for Firefox can be found at: http://chrispederick.com/work/webdeveloper/

And the one for Internet Explorer can be found at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e59c3964-672d-4511-bb3e-2d5e1db91038&displaylang=en

You really need to have at least these toolbars!

So now you know what you need to have to be a successful web designer. Don’t forget to download at least the toolbars. They will help you a lot and will save you a lot of time.

Hilco van der Meer is known as the author of the Cascading Stylesheet course How To Master CSS. He’s a professional web designer for over 5 years. More information about the course can be found at: http://www.HowToMasterCSS.com

In today’s modern world, you could find almost everything on the web. Information technology has really developed and you could find any kind of information you about practically anything with just a few clicks of the mouse.

It’s amazing how you could advertise or promote anything and reach people all over the world without actually leaving your home. This is the main reason why churches today are putting up their own website to promote their church to the world. This is a great and fast way to spread the teachings and beliefs of your church. This is also an easier way to encourage people to join your church as the website will do the talking for you as long as your website has all the important information that visitors need.

A little introduction to your church is necessary in a church web design especially in the site’s home page. You should not put introductions longer than necessary as it could bore some visitors. Remember that most visitors only do a quick scan of the page and there are only a few who really takes the time to read the entire content.

You could include a short history in your church web design to let curious visitors know how your church started and where it originated. Have a separate navigational button for this information to make sure that visitors of this page are really interested about this information. It is important that almost every aspect of your church information has its own page and a corresponding navigational button is available in the site’s main menu. This would lead visitors directly to their target information.

Your church web design should have a gallery section or page where you could post some photos of your church building and church-related activities. These photos could give visitors a better idea of your church structure and your group’s activities. More people prefer to see photos than to read text content.

The site should also have a page that carries your major and primary beliefs and doctrines. Put a summary with about two to three sentences about each doctrine. People visiting your site are probably interested in learning what your church or group believes in. This page should be the most important page and should receive the most visits. They could get a better understanding of your church with the help of this important page. This could be the main tool that will convince them to join your church or organization if they see that your beliefs match theirs and if they agree on your teachings and doctrines.

For people who want to study your church more, you should include a page dedicated to location guide to help people find your church. It would also be helpful if you would post service schedules where they could see the list of times when your church conducts service. They will know when to go should they wish to personally attend your church services. Include a list of available services like a service for children or younger groups.

It would also be great if you could have a page for the church administration. This is to let people know who is in charge of your church or organization. Include something about their background or achievements. A testimonial page about your church or church administration from people outside your church will also appeal to visitors.

You could include as many information as you want in your church web design. This information will help people find what they are looking for. They could easily determine if your church is right for them if all the information they need is available on your site.

Web design changes with lightening speed. You want to stay on top of the new technology if you expect to get new clients. Creating your website in Dreamweaver is a good idea but you want to know how to do all of the things in Dreamweaver without the program. The reason why you want to be able to hand code is because there are things that are much easier to do by hand than by using Dreamweaver.

As a freelance web designer you should be well versed in Dreamweaver and Photoshop and all of the other programs that can be used to make websites beautiful. However, you also need to know CSS and XHTML. The notion that knowing the front end of Dreamweaver and other software without knowing the back end is not necessarily true. You want to be able to offer clients a number of different options when it comes to your creative skills.

Finding work as a freelance web designer can be tough. However there are a few places that you should get your website posted and advertise for work. If you are looking for any type of freelance work there are a number of sites, such as Sologig.com that you can register with. You will be able to post some clips and other information about what type of services you are offering. Jobs postings from around the country can be found there.

Web designers typically get work online but you might be surprised at how much work you can get form word of mouth. There is always someone that needs a website for something. Some people have a product that they would like to sell online but have no idea how to put a website together. Some schools would like to have a website for one of their sports teams but there is no one the staff that can do it. These are great opportunities that you can get from just talking to people that you know. Make sure that you tell everyone that you are a freelance web designer. You will be surprised at how many people are interested in your services.

It is important to have a rate chart established before you start looking for work. There are plenty of people online that will try to get you to work for much less than what your skills are worth. Check around and see what the standard rates are for whatever applications you are doing. You do not want to spend item doing work for less than what you should be making. Have a rate chart and stick to it. O not let people talk you down on your rates. Offer a money back guarantee if you do not deliver the work when you are supposed to with all of the attributes that are supposed to be there.

If you want to get your website designed but lack the necessary tech expertise and are seeking professionals who could do the job for you, here is a checklist that you should follow. Cause if you are shelling out a quality

sum, you might as well get its worth back!

Following are some clues that will point to a successfully completed design

  project:
Website Designer without a Website

If the probable web designer or the company that you seek to hire doesnt

have a website to stake claim, then run for your life by all means. There is

absolutely no excuse for not having an online presence for any advertising

and marketing company. And if they havent cared about themselves, there

is bleak possibility that they will for you.
Coming Soon

If all or most of the samples on a web designers site say Coming Soon or Page

not found take it as screaming sign that says, save yourself! All these

tags mean but one thing, that theyre probably a company that doesnt

finish projects or drag it on till eternity.
Same Samples

there might be many sample works pasted on their website. But look closer to

see if they theyre all for the same campaign or company and one youve

never heard of. This is clue enough to tell you that the samples are done

for design school, not real world business.
Typos, Broken Links and Stale Info

Look out for work samples that have typos, broken links and outdated information.

And if you see any dont haste in leaving. If theyve done it

before, they can obviously do it again.
No Key Questions

While interviewing a designer, see if they ask the three key questions:

”

  What does the client do?

”

What does the client want done?

”

  What is the project deadline?

And if they dont ask these, just ask them to leave!
No Communication

If you have trouble getting the design company on the phone, or there is no

response to your emails in a timely and efficient manner, it is cue enough

for their future performance. This is just a foreshadowing of whats

to come when the real work begins.
No Price Quote

If they dont have a price quote or printing estimate in writing, there

are chances that its all a fraudulent proceeding. Verbal estimates are

amateur, indicating that that designer is as well.
Too good to be true

If the price sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. Youll

either never get the final project completed, or youll get what you

pay for. Get several quotes to see what the ballpark figures should be, especially

so if you are new in the game. And dont rely on internet companies as

many are in foreign countries, thus making communication impossible.
Contract

If there is no contract signage in the picture, then there is reason to caution.

Do you know what the payment terms are, who owns the copyright, are there

royalties or usage limits, and so on. Dont hire any contractor without

some agreement in writing.
No Money Upfront

If you arent asked for money up front, run back! Think of it as a retainer,

and typically, an assurance that your job is taken as a serious priority. If

youve gotten to this point with your research, a deposit of 30 or 50%

shouldnt scare you.

With this 10 point checklist to take cue from, chances of you zeroing in on

the wrong designer are well& zeroed out!

After being in the web design and development industry in India for quite

some time, Michael Henderson is a known name. Presently, he works with the

WWW standards as an acting consultant and advises the clientele about hiring

offshore web services. He also advises the web development team to built web

pages that comply with the W3C standards.

The selection of the best web hosting provider, having infinite number of suppliers and work harder. Who will decide on one of the providers should have adequate knowledge of the requirements. There are several points that should take care and finding a web host. First, the customer should list below all the requirements and then find the hosting provider below. Finally, if a supplier will be selected by the user, after a proper research, but it is obvious that the selected providers have certainly some extraordinary quality compared to other operators. It is well known that due to strong competition in which all suppliers is very elegant presentation of himself, it is very difficult for customers to choose one of them for their business. The only line to the left, is to help customers with “knowledge” as knowledge only those customers are in a position to decide, what to consider in order during the decision-making. It is important to acquire the customer knowledge, but the point is, how and where to acquire knowledge. The knowledge of the service sector plays an important role as knowledge of the technologies underlying the service, the knowledge about the people behind the service, knowledge of customer service, knowledge of the extent of Quality provided the hosting available and many other things, lists the .The first step taken by the majority of clients to create a line budget for the hosting, but to professionals who know the value of hosting will be placed, is not the money factor on the top, but reliable in the middle, where some important factor in its overall list aos. Rather, it was considered important even before the knowledge of the factors to acquire. Now you can look at an example, if a budget that allocated less than $ 100 then he / she ignore terms like dedicated servers collocation, etc. But more than the budget they have the opportunity to learn. There are many sources of knowledge acquisition is the main source for all to read the article, more articles like showing a complete picture, more value, it means more knowledge. Another advantage of this medium is that it is the cheapest means of acquiring knowledge. The theme, once elected, is to be read on the budget on. Inclusion in the budget not only money but also time. If the argument that their needs and the sources of opinion are correct.A crucial point, the customer must keep in mind that he / she should always go for the right information to choose a good hosting provider. Customers should also consider the answers to certain questions, as he / she knows the meaning of five nines, aos, and their business needs. Client does not want the PHP technology on its Web site? The customer is preferably a dynamic and fast over a trusted site to give default simple search friendly site?If the customer visits each of the then all suppliers will do their best to sell their huge plane, the functions that are not required to contain.Let’s look aos another example, a factor that the hosting provider Urchin of statistics is expensive, but will in fact have to pay providers a license fee, which is best used for the transfer to the customer, to the shoulder aos. To operate a good business or a part of the free stats open source solutions are more than enough. Hosting providers make these additions to it more attractive package. We need to evaluate the basic functionality and would ultimately for the add-ons which can amount to supplement the core.Let’s go further and aos look at other sources. Another reliable source, that customers can directly with hosting providers and provides them with an honest opinion about the features that speak your business needs. Thus the conclusion that after reading the article and always in contact with 8 or 9-providers can a good level of knowledge and can tell you that he / she can now act with intelligence, and the choice of hosting for him her. In general, what happens to owners of small village of stupid mistakes, such compromises with the sources at low cost and ignore the rest of things. There are many providers who are willing to offer their services at very reasonable prices, but their services are worthless and unreliable, like, whenever they are needed to disappear.A good supplier is providing more appropriate support whenever needed and charges the customers under support provided. Last but not least, the source with which the user both with advisors in the network, or you can talk to people who can be consulted in advance to be hosted. This is a lengthy process, but knowledge of the customer gains from this source are really noticeable. When a user negotiates a better deal, and if he / she gets solved all their problems or, aos, if the economy grows, it is then that a host is required to take really good to aos success story.

What you need to know:

1. Qualifications are worthless. Unless the person has a proper graphical design background, almost all of the web design training is learned at a community college part time and not very credible. Unless the person you are qualifying can explain XHTML and CSS to you and why they are good for your website, stay clear.

2. A good web designer will have a diverse portfolio and lots of attractive sites they have built for their customers. They will also be able to explain to you why they designed the site the way it looks. If a person does not have a substantial portfolio, get them to do a first draft design to display their skill to you.

3. Your designer candidate needs to realize that they are building your website for users. This means all users regardless of technical ability and which web browser they are using. Amateur web designers tend to come up with what they think are impressive looking pages while ignoring the visitors who will come to your site. Ask the prospect which browsers they will test the web site on? (answer: as many as possible) What is the purpose of the website? (answer: explain the point of the site very simply).

4. Many web designers have no idea what to charge for their services. When you ask, you will get bids form $50 to $5,000. Both of these are ridiculous as one of them may be from a non English speaking foreigner and the other a committee that will accomplish little. Look for an independent individual as opposed to a corporate type person. Be willing to negotiate the price but never agree to a let them do whatever it takes to make a good site and pay by the hour!

5. Be very wary of any web designer who tries to sell you a whole package; domain name, web hosting, etc. Most of these types of operations have huge flaws in one area or the other. They will either be web hosting specialists who think designing web pages is easy or designers who are reselling some cheap hosting package for a huge profit. It”s best to buy the hosting yourself.

Keep these five points in mind when looking for that perfect web designer.

So it is time for you to change your web host and you are not well equipped with the dos and don’ts about changing your web hosting provider. Changing your web host becomes imperative if your current web hosting provider is not offering quality services, you need added bandwidth and storage or if your website is hosted on a free web hosting account. Keeping in mind the future growth prospects of your website and feature requirements, the user should look for hosts that offer flexible and all-inclusive hosting packages. A thorough planning goes into the process of changing your hosting provider:

First step is to find a reliable and quality hosting provider who offers better quality services and hosting features as compared to your previous host.

Once you have zeroed down on a hosting provider, it is time to transfer your site to the new hosting server. The importance of backing up your website from the previous host cannot be stressed enough and is highly recommended. Also, take into account the layout and structuring of your website. If you feel that your website needs a neat structuring, then consider redesigning your website before you switch to another web host. This could either entail a new page design or perhaps redesigning of your content storage and database.

Remember to have a redirect page/feature on your old site for at least 48 hours after you have changed your hosting provider. This means that you should allow yourself at 48 hours before your website gets listed on most of the domain servers. This would ensure complete visibility and accessibility of your website even after a new IP has been generated but not yet propagated through the Internet.

Next thing to be taken into account is find out whether the new host is running on Windows or Unix platform and ascertain in advance its compatibility issues with your website.

The most important aspect is the storage offered by the new host. Make sure that the storage space is enough and offers ample room for your website’s growth. Also take the bandwidth into account and ensure it is enough to maintain the accessibility of your website.

The features and services offered by the new host should at least equate to if not surpass your previous web hosting provider. These could include features like auto responders, quality customer support, mail forwarding and others. Also, if your website was created using Microsoft Frontpage, then the user is required to ensure in advance that the new hosting provider supports Frontpage extensions.

People often say that you get what you pay for, but is it true about cheap blog hosting? Not all hosts are created equal, so you need to be able to decide if the deal on offer is a good one or not. Here are three things you MUST know about cheap blog hosting.

1. Will I Have Enough Resources To Host My Blog?
===================================

A blog is usually run by scripts, and those scripts will take up disk space. Using WordPress for example (which is perhaps the best overall choice for a blogging platform), starts at around 5Mb. Once you add a few plug ins to make the blog do what you want, then you are probably looking at another 5mb of disk space.

If you plan to run video on blog as well, then you could be looking at higher bandwidth as well, so in short, you need a reasonable amount of resources just to get started. This pretty much eliminates the free hosts, but most good hosts would cover you easily.

2. Will I have Enough Features To Host My Blog?
==================================

Again because blogs are usually scripts, your host needs to allow you to execute scripts from your blog. This is not as scary as it sounds because the top blogging platforms such as WordPress can be automatically installed using Cpanel and something called Fantastico, which makes installation child’s play. As long as Fantastico is available and you are able to run PHP scripts, then you have the features to host your blog.

3. Will I Get Help If I Run Into Trouble When I Host My Blog?
==========================================

Here is a biggy. Will your host help you if you get into trouble? Despite how much easier these things have been made, many people still come unstuck at some stage of the process. What you need is a web host who will try and go that extra mile for you when things get tough. Not everything is straight forward when you are web hosting, and a good web host understands that and goes of their way to help you. If the support from your cheap blog hosting is poor, then it is too cheap, and you should be looking elsewhere.

I have found that some web hosts will go that extra mile for you and will help you with things like third party scripts for example. Not all will do this of course, and nor should you expect it. However when you do receive this kind of help, it does make that particular host stand out from the crowd.

I have also found that some web hosts pay lip service to support. They answer questions quickly, but usually with more question, using time that would have been better spent answering your query. If your host’s support leads you round in circles, then perhaps it is time to look elsewhere for a cheap web host.

So there we have it. If you cover these three bases with your web host, then you can truly say that you have found cheap blog hosting that is good value for money. Good luck with your blogging!

Do you want to know where I host my blog? I have reviewed the very best in cheap blog hosting and can say that all will cover your bases.

If you are planning to get into the lucrative web design business and you think you have all the skills required to run this business successfully, have a look at the points mentioned below and say if you ever paid any importance to these factors when you thought of setting up a web design business. Make sure that read each point carefully since, they might not be the typical technical skills required, but are in one respect the most important facts that contribute to the success of a website designing business.

A website is created to boost business and take it to a new platform. Hence a successful web design should first understand the business, its need and the kind of traffic it is attracting. Only then can a designer create a good website and will be able to provide a profitable edge to the business through his creative and lucrative design.

Websites are created for the people to visit the site, browse through them and use them for information or business. Hence, your web design should be created such that it is not only visibly attractive but also informative and interesting in content.
